Noise Optimization for MKIDs With Different Design Geometries and Material Selections

The separation and optimization of noise components is critical to microwave-kinetic inductance detector (MKID) development. We analyze the effect several changes lumped-element inductor interdigitated capacitor geometry on performance a series MKIDs intended for millimeter-wavelength experiments. extract contributions from two-level system in dielectric layer, generation-recombination intrinsic superconducting thin-film, white each power spectrum characterize how these depend geometry, material, measurement conditions such as driving temperature. observe reduction amplitude with both an elevated sample temperature increased gap between fingers within capacitors aluminum niobium detectors. also verify expected associated quasiparticle lifetime reduced volume. This study iterates over different materials, including aluminum, niobium, manganese, compares results underlying physical model.
